One of the most exciting aspects of launching this website for Dr. Alice Chang, is to discuss teaching techniques that can help other educators in the medical research field better assist their students.
It was mentioned earlier that the students of Dr. Alice Chang have gone on to have several research pieces published. When an educator is looking for motivation, Dr. Chang recommends reflecting on the impact of effective teaching. Beyond inspiration, it’s also helpful to think of the educational tactics that had the greatest impact on the student. When an educator has a clear sense of what methods are most effective, it becomes easier to replicate those efforts. Dr. Alice Chang has found that medical students respond positively to evidence-based and problem-based teaching and learning methods.
In her current role, Dr. Chang is thankful to be a part of an institution that promotes a culture that values the art of teaching. Research institutions don’t always recognize the importance of teaching at the same level as they respect research. Basic research and clinical research should be Integrated and synergized. The medical community must have an influx of basic science educators who are well-positioned to teach the next generation of medical professionals that can practice with evidence-based critical thinking skills.
Alice Chang, Ph.D., hopes this website helps put a spotlight on the importance of having top-tier educators training willing to enter a profession in medical research.
